Nazim Bashir

Community Outreach Coordinator

Nazim is currently AAM’s Community Outreach Coordinator. He is responsible for all community outreach and empowerment activities, which aims to ensure refugee communities are well advised on their rights and options in Malaysia, and are empowered to leverage their own resources.

Prior to joining AAM, he worked with UNHCR Malaysia for 7 years, initially with the Protection Unit mainly focusing on protection issues faced by the refugee communities, specifically on arrest and detention. He then worked in the Refugee Status Determination unit, adjudicating on asylum claims and subsequently he joined the Livelihoods unit focusing on community income generating and empowerment projects.

Nazim has a Bachelor’s degree in Law from University of London and speaks English and Malay.
