Asylum Access respects the privacy of its donors, newsletter subscribers and website visitors. This policy applies to all information received by Asylum Access, both online and offline, on any Platform (“Platform,” includes asylumaccess.org and refugeeworkrights.org websites, social media, Salesforce, and Classy.org), as well as any electronic, written, or oral communications.

How we collect donor and visitor information

Visitors are not required to provide personal information to use most of the website’s features. Exceptions to this include: Donate and Email Newsletter Sign Up features.

We receive and store any and all information that individuals enter on our Platforms or provide to us by any other form of communication, including, but not limited to: electronic mail, regular mail, phone calls, and donation. Types of information can include first and last name, email address, phone number, street address, and company affiliation.

We do collect properly anonymized donor and visitor information on our Platforms using Google Analytics. This data is used to improve promotional and fundraising activities and for general insights about how users experience our websites. Anonymized data is aggregate user data that is not combined with individual user data, so personal information remains anonymous and confidential.

How we use and secure donor and visitor information

Asylum Access will not share or sell the personal information of our donors, subscribers or website visitors with anyone else or send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations. We will only share an individual’s personal information if they have given us specific permission to do so. 

When personal information is requested through donations or newsletter sign-ups, it will only be used to:

  • Distribute receipts for donations
  • Inform donors and subscribers about Asylum Access’ work, and upcoming fundraising and other activities
  • Internal analysis and record keeping
  • Reporting to relevant government agencies (for reporting purposes and not for public inspection), and
  • Contact donors and subscribers about changes to policies.

Protecting your credit card information is important to us. Asylum Access’ online donation site (Classy.org) and payment processor (Stripe.com) have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of credit card information. We do not store credit card information on any Asylum Access servers.

Jurisdiction

This website is published in the United States and is subject to laws of the United States. Specifically, the laws of the State of California govern this Privacy Policy regardless of the user’s location. You hereby expressly consent to exclusive jurisdiction and venue in the federal and state courts located in San Francisco, California, for all matters or disputes arising out of or relating to this Privacy Policy or your access or use of the website. 

If you are in a country outside the United States and voluntarily submit personal information to us, you consent to the general use of such information as provided in this Privacy Policy and to the transfer of that information to, and/or storage of that information in, the United States. Asylum Access shall not be liable under any circumstances for damages resulting from use of information collected from visitors to this website. We note that you are under no obligation to disclose any personal information to Asylum Access if you do not want to do so.

Children’s Privacy

Asylum Access believes every measure of precaution should be taken to protect children online and complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Our Platforms are directed to general audiences, and we do not knowingly ask children for any information. Visitors who are children should ask their parent or legal guardian for assistance when using our Platforms.

If you would like to promote awareness about Asylum Access or forced displacement, please feel free to print, download, or share the information and materials you access at asylumaccess.org or refugeeworkrights.org. However, please note that many of the materials within these sites, or linked to these sites, are copyrighted by various organizations and subject to their copyright terms.

We prefer that you limit your use of the materials to non-commercial use. And, when possible, please cite the appropriate website.

Use of Photos

Many of the photos used in this site have been provided by individual photographers and may not be used without explicit permission from the photographers. Please contact us if you are interested in using these images.

Changes to Privacy Policy

Asylum Access may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time without advance notice. Accordingly, we recommend that you check for updates to this Privacy Policy on an ongoing basis.
