Asylum Access is dismayed by yesterday’s US Supreme Court Order reinstating the Migrant Protection Protocols (also referred to as “MPP” or “Remain in Mexico”). Under the Trump administration, MPP caused irreparable harm to thousands of families, violating international refugee law and placing people seeking asylum in situations of enormous danger.

We call on the government of Mexico to refuse to cooperate with any MPP renewal, and implore the Biden administration to take all necessary measures to restore asylum and ensure that all people in need of international protection can find safety.

For more information, please see the joint letter submitted by 74 civil society organizations to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador urging him to reject any reinstatement of MPP.
